3 Key Health Threats During the Monsoon

  1. Waterborne Diseases (Typhoid & Gastroenteritis): The rains often compromise water supply, leading to contamination. This is the primary cause of diarrhea, vomiting, and typhoid fever.
  2. Vector-Borne Diseases (Dengue & Malaria): Stagnant water around the home becomes a breeding ground for mosquitoes. The Aedes (Dengue) and Anopheles (Malaria) mosquitoes thrive in this environment.
  3. Viral Infections (Cold & Flu): The sudden temperature changes and humidity make children susceptible to common colds and influenza.
Precautionary Step Why It's Crucial
Boil/Filter Drinking Water
Always ensure your child drinks only boiled and cooled or reliably filtered water. This is the single most effective barrier against waterborne infections.
Maintain Mosquito Protection
Use child-safe mosquito repellents during high-risk hours (early morning and evening). Ensure there is absolutely no stagnant water in plant pots, coolers, or discarded containers near your home in Kharghar.
Strict Hand Hygiene
Teach and supervise frequent hand washing, especially before meals and after playing outside. Carry a hand sanitizer for quick use when outdoors.
Avoid Outside Food
Limit street food and water-based beverages sold by vendors, as these are common sources of contamination during the rains. Stick to freshly prepared, hot meals at home.
Keep Skin Dry
Change your child out of wet clothes immediately. High humidity causes moisture to collect in skin folds, increasing the risk of fungal infections and rashes.
If your child develops a persistent high fever, frequent vomiting, or refuses to eat, do not wait. Consult a pediatrician promptly.
